Great topic as a singer i tend to avoid playing covers whenever possable, but it must be said that the guys that do play in a covers band have a hard job well i imagine it would be as i think a lot of folk judge you on the original unless you take it and make it your own seen a few covers bands the only one i would rate is carnaby st but i still think you need to get it right

Well, as a band who dragged their carcasses all around the UK, playing original material and generally getting shafted by management and promoters, left right and centre - it's quite nice (now we're of a certain age ;) ) to play covers.
Anyhoo, check us out.

I suppose in essence we are a covers band but prefer to call it a tribute to all things rock. See what you think -

It is hard to cover such well loved tunes but we try to be different.

Thanks,

Unfortunately, I think we're getting to the stage where there's a bit of oversaturation of rock covers bands now.

In the past covers bands were usually regarded as something that you saw with your dad down at the local miners welfare or at a wedding.

I think possibly the rock covers bands are getting to the same stage now and sadly the quality isn't really that consistent.

The only rock covers bands that I've seen (obviously I've not seen them all) that do any of the songs justice is No DIce, but even they seem to have hit hard times as well, with their audience in places like Zico's diminishing rapidly for each gig.

Yeh its the old band wagon syndrome , i have to agree with what you are sayin but i guess it has to do a lot with the promotional side too i have been on the bill with rock bands good bad and indifferent
as a band we are no where near any rock gendre so it seems a bit silly to have us play along side
but the promoters seem to want this what happened to venues that had a certain type of music with punters who stayed to see other bands ?

Have to agree 100%!

The dreaded 3 or 4 band bill came as a by-product of the Tennent's Live scheme and various Tennent's "sponsored" venues, especially King Tut's, had loads of these gigs which were seen as an easy way to fill small venues.

Unfortunately, as you know only too well, having different types of act (even from roughly the same genre) on the same bill just never works and leads to general apathy on the gig front.

I personally think that that's why a lot of people don't make the effort to go to gigs anymore as they no longer know what they're going to be getting due to the inconsistency of this type of gig.

Your right there my friend Tennants live instead of making live music more appealing in actual fact killed it off
I don't really want to play to the wrong crowd we really do need clubs that have one gandre on even if it is only one night a week
The only gendre i know that really has a clue is the folk scene they seem to have "lets put all the same type of acts on " theory and it works promoters leave a lot to be desired no payment for bands sometimesthe bands even have to get others involved and yet they pick up a fee for this

...you should try getting a decent gig in Edinburgh....nigh on impossible...
We are from Edinburgh but most of our gigs are in Glasgow, Kilmarnock and anywhere else. There is a lack of decent venues/rock pubs on the East coast.
