I hadn’t seen them in a year and last time they looked like a pretty good pub band – this time out they were a very tight and very professional touring rock band. Definitely ready to step up to the next level so here’s hoping that they get that deal they’re chasing.
Dunno about that - I don't think they've changed/improved at all over the last couple of years. They really need to shake off the Pearl Jam sound as every song could be mistaken for a Pearl Jam cover. Kenny Collins (singer) just doesn't have the "patter" between songs and just comes across like a wee ned talking to his pals. They need to learn a bit of stagecraft and refine their act. They're really just coasting on the Classic Rock / Rock Radio free publicity and hype.
Not to say that they aren't a half-decent band and they certainly seem to be increasing their following among the Bon Jovi/Gun fans.
I think they've reached a plateau and won't go any further until they get proper management. It's no secret that they've only got all the hype and free publicity from Rock Radio and Classic Rock magazine because Billy Anderson (MD of 96.3 Rock Radio) is their current manager. No matter what happens now this is what they'll always be known for.
As for chasing deals, hopefully they will be successful but again the days of companies splashing out on rock bands, even this type of softer rock band, are long gone.
Thunder are a good example of how when they (Thunder) are possibly the best live rock band in Britain and being VERY radio and media friendly, couldn't get any substantial deal and have spent the last 10 years promoting and funding tours and albums themselves. The lack of financial backing and security is one of the reasons they are calling it a day.
If top class professional bands like Thunder can't get a deal what chance has anyone else?
