First up were Logan and my have they improved. I hadn’t seen them in a year and last time they looked like a pretty good pub band – this time out they were a very tight and very professional touring rock band. Definitely ready to step up to the next level so here’s hoping that they get that deal they’re chasing.

I confess that I have only heard Thunder’s singles on the radio and had only seen them live when they did an acoustic set at Rock Radio’s Birthday Bash. What a shock I was in for: I reckon that this was the best live gig I have ever seen bar none. Not so much because of the band’s musicianship or the great stage show (that was pretty much 10 out of 10 anyway) but more from the crowd reaction. When they finished the first song they got the kind of response most bands would kill for to have at the end of their last song! It was tantamount to a standing ovation. And it just got better…and better…and better.

I felt privileged to see them on their last tour and I’m sorry I “discovered” them so late.

It was without doubt a rock Masterclass and any young band wanting to see how to do it right (or any old band for that matter) should catch Thunder whilst they still can.

Dunno about that - I don't think they've changed/improved at all over the last couple of years. They really need to shake off the Pearl Jam sound as every song could be mistaken for a Pearl Jam cover. Kenny Collins (singer) just doesn't have the "patter" between songs and just comes across like a wee ned talking to his pals. They need to learn a bit of stagecraft and refine their act. They're really just coasting on the Classic Rock / Rock Radio free publicity and hype.

Not to say that they aren't a half-decent band and they certainly seem to be increasing their following among the Bon Jovi/Gun fans.

I think they've reached a plateau and won't go any further until they get proper management. It's no secret that they've only got all the hype and free publicity from Rock Radio and Classic Rock magazine because Billy Anderson (MD of 96.3 Rock Radio) is their current manager. No matter what happens now this is what they'll always be known for.

As for chasing deals, hopefully they will be successful but again the days of companies splashing out on rock bands, even this type of softer rock band, are long gone.

Thunder are a good example of how when they (Thunder) are possibly the best live rock band in Britain and being VERY radio and media friendly, couldn't get any substantial deal and have spent the last 10 years promoting and funding tours and albums themselves. The lack of financial backing and security is one of the reasons they are calling it a day.

If top class professional bands like Thunder can't get a deal what chance has anyone else?

Thunder - simply a great example of how the UK can produce melodic hard rock acts and also a great example of how this type of band are almost completely ignored by the media despite being very radio/tv friendly.

Shame to think that this is the last tour. However I saw them on their last "final tour" as well so you never know they might make another appearance in the future.

Have to agree with McDanza on the Logan thing - quite a good band (albeit with a few rough edges) but it's just like any of these bands who win a big Battle Of The Bands competition - no matter what they do from then on they're always known as the band who won the BOTB competition.

Unfortunately, Logan (like Donald McLeod's, The Haze) will always be known as the band who only got played on Rock Radio and got the Rock Radio gigs because their manager's involved with the station. No matter what they achieve there will always be resentment from other local bands who know they'd never have gotten any airplay or the support gigs if their manager wasn't the MD of the station.
