I saw Happy The Man a couple of times in Glasgow in the 80's including their Kelvingrove appearance!

Happy The Man were:
Jamie O'Rourke - Vocals
Ian McLachlan - Guitar
Bill Mullacky - Guitar
Alastair McIntyre - Bass
Steve Hogg - Drums

I seem to remember that the name change was because of an established American band who were already using the name and had had a couple of recordings released over there.

I don't know what happened to Mr O'Rourke but the drummer, Steve Hogg, has a website with a mention of HTM at:- http://www.cosmicegg.co.uk/happytheman.aspx

There's also a video of the band playing on some kids tv show!

hello,i am jamie o'rourke,i was the singer in happy the man! couldnt believe i came across this! happy the man started way back in 1981,me and ian "glocky" mcclachlan,we 1st started out sounding a bit like like orange juice etc,you know, the old jangleypop sound of postcard, but we just seemed to progress into a more rocky sound,i remember alistair joining us,what a bass player! we played some really great gigs,we even supported steve strange once lol! we did release a single after a name change to the "nightswimmers" all in all i think it was a great experience, completely lost touch with glocky,if anyone knows his whereabouts i would love a wee contact number! i live in tenerife now and am still singing....i do a sinatra show! maybe coming back to glasgow though as my daughter is going to drama school there soon.i think i still have a couple of singles under the bed somewhere if anyone wants one! PS,I JUST GOT IN TOUCH WITH STEVIE HOGG THE DRUMMER AND HE LIVES IN SOUTHAMPTON NOW AND PLAYS IN A PUNK BAND FOR LAUGHS!

Al McIntyre here. well what can i say? After HTM I ended up playing third stream jazz until that went nowhere my playing improved though. now with my own band check www.2Storeys.com
Good to hear from Jamie recently and I keep in touch with Steve when I can.
Music scene in Glasgow is just great now although not many bands breaking through big time these days.
