Hi All We're currently looking for gigs but not having too much success. We're based in Edinburgh but willing to travel. Can anyone suggest any good gigs and the best approach. Thanks Scott www.adrenalyn.co.uk

Hi Scott Just had a quick look at your myspace and see you are very similar to my band,so, Years of experience in the covers game tells me that there ain't too many places in Edinburghshire doing cover bands.. WhistleBinkies for one, the Seahaven Hotel used to do bands, another pub in Leith which i forget the name of.. one in the east currently doing bands is The Engine Room in Bathgate..we are currently trying to get a gig sorted there..Not sure of the state of play at The Dreadnought in Bathgate..used to do bands, but, my experience of the booking guy is he is a bit of a fanny withoot a clue, so would steer clear. TBH you want to get thru to Glasgow.. One sure fire place you'll get work is Rockers in Midland Street, theres also St.Moritz Rock in the Spirit Bar. Sammy Dow's Nithsdale Road the best gig you'll ever do.. very hard to get gigs here tho,,also Village Inn in East Kilbride another good gig.. a bit further out is Fanny by Gaslight in Kilmarnock, Harleys in Ayr and the Bridge Inn in Galashiels. Check out sites like "the gig guide" and other cover bands websites/myspaces.. see where they are playing. Hope that helps and i'll look out for you down the road sometime.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply, judging from what you say Glasgow is sounding pretty appealing, I have heard various reports about Rockers good and bad.
Had a listen to your tunes on myspace, you guys rock, do you guys ever play the east coast?
Thanks again
Scott

Cheers Scott. We havent played out east yet, still working on the Engine Room and WhistleBinkies. A shame that no pubs in Edinburgh have developed the covers scene like over here! Rockers is(was) a good gig, used to be jumping EVERY saturday night (cover band main night) but since they started charging at the door it is in decline a bit... if a decent pub were to open a similar venue Rockers will be sunk.. deffo worth a go for you guys.. you would definitely do great there. (all the nasty things you may have heard about the place are unfortunately not far off the mark!) One thing i forgot to pass on to you in my original reply is to try all the various bike rallies that take place each year..great scene to get known in. Cheers again Scotty

Eskmills Bowling Club in Musselburgh might be worth a shot - but you will need to sort your own PA and backline. My Zep tribute have played there a couple of times and so have our mates from ACDC tribute - Volts. It's usually a good night and you can keep the door money! (£500 or so if you get a good crowd in!)
Led Astray have formed a new covers band called Rammy in addition to the Zeppelin stuff we do so we will be looking for some good covers gigs around Edinburgh / Lothians / Glasgow / Central Scotland too. Behind The Wall in Falkirk, and PJ Malloys and Sinky's (now called Corner Music Bar) in Dunfermline are worth a shot.
Rammy are playing the Saturday night headline slot (Midnight till 2!) at Whistlebinkies on Sat 2nd May, so maybe see you around.

Have to agree although it's a very difficult situation for any venue at the moment. What do you do though? Do you charge entrance and try to get better known bands or do you have free admission and rely on bands to bring enough people to try and cover your costs. A lot of bands seem to forget that it costs the venue money to have the bands in the first place! rocker

It's the same old story all over Scotland, albeit more specifically Glasgow! When anyone tries to put on a new gig they just don't get the support and all the punters continue to go to the same old places - and continue to moan about how crap they are! Apathy exists all over Scotland for rock music but it's getting to the stage where venues (and promoters) will stop trying to do something new and/or different because of the lack of support from the punters. braz
